What would be some of the features that you would want from Apple’s Time Machine ?
- “Real” incremental synchronization
Currently, Time Machine’s unit of change is a file. Each time a file changes, the whole file gets copied. With today’s technology, this ought to be done at a block level. This particularly is useful as some of the files can get really big.
For e.g., if I am running Parallels or VMware Fusion on my Mac, then those images get changed all the time. This is where I really really wish Time Machine would do block-level change identification and update them. - De-Duplication
This would be a COOL feature to have. If you have #1, #2 would be a logical alternative. - Time Machine over NFS/SMB/AFP
Me too.
Obviously, #1 and #2 are NetApp-like features but they would indeed be VERY VERY cool on Mac. I have gone the other way as well.
